Preserving Memories

As chairperson of the McCreary County High School Memorial Committee, I am happy to report that progress is being made toward the building of the memorial.

Several of the former students have been gathering periodically at the home of Wayne and Norma Pritchard to discuss the ways and means of erecting a memorial and many varied ideas have been presented. Of course, at this early stage nothing concrete has been agreed upon, but, as I said, real progress is being made.

I have received emails from many former students and, based upon them, and comments heard within McCreary County, much enthusiasm exists for the building of something that will ensure that the memory of the old high school does not fade with the passage of time.

On May 24, at 2:00 PM, the Memorial Committee will be hosting a rally to be held on the grounds of The Lord’s Gym. This rally is being held with the cooperation of Rev. and Mrs. Braxton King, owners and operators of the Gym. Both Braxton and Monica are generous supporters of the memorial and have been working closely with the Committee to move the memorial toward completion. The rally will serve as an opportunity for interested persons to voice their opinions regarding the memorial and will provide essential feedback to the Committee in its attempt to formalize a workable plan for construction of the memorial.

If you plan to be in McCreary County during the Memorial Day celebration, please try to stop by The Lord’s Gym and participate in the rally. We need all the feedback we can get.

Thank you for your past support of our efforts. Many happy memories (and a few bad ones) associated with the school are too precious to be

consigned to the proverbial dustbin of history. With your continued help, we will make sure that doesn’t happen.

Jack Koger
