Dear Editor:
I’ve never been successful running for office, having lost twice here in McCreary County, but I find it hard to ignore the race between Mrs. Clinton and Barack Obama.
I was a registered Republican since 1945. I always voted for party candidates; however, I crossed over for a candidate I felt was better qualified. I am now a registered Democrat. The next paragraph will tell you why.
Under the Republican leadership over the past six years, the United States has sunk to a dangerous low. We have seen our jobs disappear and go overseas, almost everything at the stores (food excepted) is made in China. Gasoline prices approaching $4 per gallon with almost nothing being done to fix the problem. A war the president started that has cost the lives of over 4,000 men and women, over 30,000 seriously wounded and no possible way for us to “win” the war. Major losses in the real estate markets nationwide. Unprecedented construction jobs eliminated and untold number of people have lost their homes.
I can no longer support this kind of leadership.
The Democrat party here in McCreary County is extremely weak. There has been no attempt to support any of the candidates running for president of the United States. Hillary Clinton and Obama are in a very close race in the Pennsylvania primary according to recent polls. That outcome is extremely important to those two Democrats and our Kentucky primary on May 20 will be essential to the race also. I strongly urge all Democrats to plan to vote in this election.
