Don’t Hide Your Light Under a Basket

Dear Editor:

Please thank Peter Ferrara so much for his story about the turtle. I too, for many years, have been removing them from the roads. I haven’t been rewarded as Peter was with an egg.

Maybe in another way I guess I have been rewarded. Not long ago I entered a store and the owner said, “Do you know who I am?” Not that I am that old, but I remember faces but forget names. I had to tell him no.

He said, “I know who you are. and do you really know when I really started to like you?” (He didn’t mince words!)

I laughed and told him, “No.”

He told me that many years ago he was sitting on his front porch and that I was driving down the road. He said I stopped suddenly, jumped out of my car, and ran around in front of it and removed a turtle to safer ground. I thanked him for sharing that with me. it really brought home the proverb of not hiding your light under a bushel basket. You never know when people are watching

So, Mr. Ferrara, I won’t mince words either. Do you know when I really started to like you?

When I read your story about the turtle.
