OVENFORK — Shannon Dewayne Garland, originally from McCreary County, pled guilty last week to helping his girlfriend murder a woman for her prescription pain medication back in March 2005.
Garland and Rosemary Fields McClain were arrested after the body of Lisa Jenkins, 40, of Partridge was found over a bank near the top of a Pine Mountain trail.
Garland confessed to hiding Jenkins' body, abandoning her vehicle, and throwing away the murder weapon. He pled guilty to complicity to murder, first-degree robbery, theft by unlawful taking, complicity to theft of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
As part of his plea agreement, Garland will testify against McClain at her trial, scheduled for next month. Letcher Commonwealth Attorney Edison Banks II is recommending all sentences run concurrently on the condition that Garland does not seek any kind of early release before 20 full years since the date of his arrest. Formal sentencing is scheduled for April 24.
