White named District Judge

Whitley lawyer faces competition in primary election

WILLIAMSBURG — Last week Steve Beshear announced the appointment of Fred Franklin White to the office of District Judge for the 34th Judicial District, Division 2, serving McCreary and Whitley counties.

The vacancy was created when Daniel L. Ballou was elected Circuit Judge last November. This appointment will serve until this year’s general election on November 4.

White is a candidate in that race along with attorneys Jane R. Butcher, Leroy A. Gilbert Jr. and Jason P. Price. The top two vote-getters in the May Primary will square off this fall.

White previously practiced law with Kenneth A. Sizemore Law Offices in London, Ky. He graduated from Cumberland College received his Juris Doctor from Mississippi College School of Law. He told The Record Friday that he is looking forward to assisting Division 1 Judge Cathy Prewitt as soon as possible.

“I hope to get sworn in Wednesday or Thursday,” White said, explaining that he must complete a required class before taking the bench.

White added that it’s an honor for him to serve Whitley and McCreary counties in this capacity and that he particularly looks forward to working with juveniles and school officials.

“I coached Little League for 18 years in addition to raising children,” White said. “If I wasn’t practicing law, I’d be a teacher. I want to help make life a little better for the kids.”

White and his wife, Kimberly, live in Williamsburg. They have two daughters, Kelsey and Erin.
