WHITLEY CITY — A convicted sex offender wanted in Tennessee on theft-related charges was captured in Revelo Saturday night by local authorities.
McCreary County Deputy Sheriff David Sampson reported that he had been contacted by Oneida Police Department in regard to Michael Dewayne Phillips, 27, of Oneida. Phillips was wanted for Theft over $1,000, Aggravated Burglary and Vandalism under $500. He was also listed on the Tennessee Sex-ual Offender Registry for a 2001 conviction for Solicitation of a Minor.
Phillips was located at a home where he is believed to have been staying for about three weeks. Dep. Sampson noted that the home-owner was una-ware of Phillips’ alleged criminal activity.
The deputy confirmed Phillips’ extradition through NCIC ( National Crime Information Center) and arrested the suspect on the fugitive warrant as well as failure to register as a sex offender in Kentucky within 10 days.
Assisting in the arrest were Kentucky State Police Troopers Jason Browning and Shaler Jones, Dep. Chris King, and Constable Jamie Higginbotham.
Dep. Sampson added that he will present the case to a local grand jury.
