STEARNS — A familiar face will be leading McCreary Central High School with the coming school year.
The school’s site based decision making council selected Curriculum Coordinator Sharon Ross as Principal in a special-called meeting yesterday afternoon. Council chair Wayne Morgan made the announcement.
“Based on the applicants’ interviews conducted by the council, with significant input from stakeholders and following our identified process, we have found the most qualified applicant to serve as our principal…”
In moving to accept Ross, Morgan noted that the council reached a consensus in the decision.
Ross has served 21 years with the school district, 15 of those as an MCHS teacher. She will be taking the reins from Donna Caldwell, who was informed in April that she was to be re-assigned within the district after two years as Principal.
Applicants submitted their resumes to Superintendent Arthur D. Wright, who forwarded qualified applicants to the council.
The council — comprised of Morgan, Faye Rowe, Melinda Strunk, Linda Roberts and Tonya Perry — met in special session Wednesday to review 11 applications, from which four candidates were selected for interview: Ross, McCreary Academy Principal Michael Cash, MCHS Assistant Principal Rick Kenney and McCreary County Middle School teacher Clinton Taylor.
On Monday, the council interviewed each candidate in closed executive session for roughly an hour. Members deliberated for approximately an hour and a half before returning to open session with the announcement.
