McCreary Falls in Season’s First District Contest

STEARNS —   In their first district game of the season against Southwestern on Thursday the Raiders fell victim to a monster inning which was much their own fault.

Trailing 5-0 after four innings McCreary would endure an inning that saw twelve Warrior hitters come to the plate with eight of them crossing the plate to turn the game into a five inning 13-0 rout.

The game was scoreless through two innings but the Warriors would strike for three in the third and two more in the fourth inning.

The fifth inning started with five consecutive batters reaching base before a ground ball to shortstop resulted in the first out of the inning.  The next batter would strike out but  still end up on first on a wild pitch.  Back to back singles through the left side would follow and then another error before the Raiders could finally get out of the inning with a pair of ground balls to second base.

Offensively the Raiders were limited to just three singles and a walk in thier five turns at bat.

They would mount a scoring threat in the fourth inning when Brad Strunk led off with a single to left and one out later Jake Kennedy singled.  The threat would come to a quite end though with a fly ball to shallow center field and a strikeout to end the inning.

The only other hit recorded by a Raider was a one out single in the second inning by Chase Terry.

Two days prior the Raiders traveled to Rockcastle County where they fell 8-3 as the Rockets broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the fourth and then added two insurance runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Tristen Adkins led the Raiders with two hits. Cold Kidd and Jake Kennedy each had an rbi and Brad Strunk had a double and scored twice.

McCreary would break the three game slide they were in on Friday as they defeated Clinton County 4-1.

Senior Andrew Wells pitched a complete game allowing just one unearned run and struck out nine Bulldog hitters.

A fifth inning single by Jake Kennedy brought home two runs to put the Raiders in the lead.

On Saturday the Raiders traveled to Lincoln County for a two game event but both times they came away with a loss falling 11-1 to Lincoln Co. and then  10-2 to Harlan Co.
