Raiders Hammer Lynn Camp, Fall in Last Inning at Knox

STEARNS —    The Raider baseball squad put together back to back wins for the first time this season with a blowout 13-1 win over Lynn Camp last Monday which followed the 3-1 win over Williamsburg the previous Friday.

Sophomore Caleb Dixon started on the mound for McCreary and did not allow a hit while striking out four and walking two. The Wildcats would score an unearned run in the first inning off of a pair of Raider errors which briefly gave them a 1-0 lead.

McCreary would answer back in their first at bat with run scoring singles by Jake Kennedy and Cole Kidd.  Brad Strunk scored on Kennedy’s single after leading off the game with a walk and then Kennedy would come in to score on Kidd’s two out hit to make it 2-1.

McCreary would take a big lead in the second with a five run inning.  Chase Terry, Kyle Jones and Brad Strunk each knocked in a run and Kidd knocked in the other two.

The Raiders would add another run in the third on a sacrifice fly ball to center field off the bat of Brad Strunk but they would strand runners at second and third with back to back strikeouts to end the inning with an 8-1 lead.

In the last of the fourth the Raiders continued the onslaught scoring five more times to put themselves in position to end the game by the 10-run rule after the top of the fifth.

Tyler Vaughn and Alex West started the inning off with walks and Kyle Jones reached on an error.  Trysten Adkins then singled to bring in Vaughn and West.  Brad Strunk followed with a single to reload the bases for Andrew Wells who drew a four pitch walk to force Jones in to score to make it 11-1.

McCreary would score twice more with Justin Trammell getting an rbi while Adkins and Strunk came around to score to make it 13-1 by the time the inning ended.

Trammell would follow Dixon on the mound beginning in the fourth inning.  He would strikeout his first two hitters and retire the side in order in the fourth before starting the fifth with consecutive strikeouts again before hitting a batter and then giving up a single too end the Raiders combined, five inning no-hitter bid.  The following batter grounded to second base to end the game.

Brad Strunk was 2-2 with a walk, a pair of runs scored and three rbi’s to lead McCreary.  Cole Kidd knocked in three and Trysten Adkins two while Jake Kennedy and Devin Rose each scored twice.

McCreary would travel to Knox Central on Tuesday where they fell 4-3 in a close contest that saw the Panthers push across the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Raider pitcher Brad Strunk had an outstanding outing giving up six hits in six innings while striking out 13 batters and allowing just one walk.  The senior also had another good day at the plate going 3-3 with a walk while scoring two of the Raiders three runs.

The Panthers scored once in the bottom of the first and McCreary would pull even with a run in the third.  Knox would plate two runs in the bottom half of the third however making it 3-1 but Central would pull even again with a two run top of the fourth.  The game would remain tied until the final inning when Knox scored the winning run with no one out.

The remainder of the spring break week games, at Cumberland County and at Oneida were washed away due to rain.
