Lady Raiders Heading to 3rd Straight Regional Tournament

STEARNS —   The Lady Raider fast pitch advanced to the 12th Region Tournament for the third consecutive season with a 6-1 home win over Wayne County in the opening game of last week’s 48th District Tournament.

McCreary got an outstanding performance from pitcher Kaylee Cotton and a big game offensively from senior Megan Ross to lead them to the win.

The following evening the Lady Raiders would host Southwestern in the championship game where they came up on the short end of a 3-1 score with the Lady Warriors getting the two decisive runs in the last of the fifth inning.

On Monday McCreary punched their ticked to the regional with the win over Wayne.

After a scoreless first two innings the Lady Raiders jumped on top in the bottom of the fourth.  Freshman Kayli West lead off with a double over the left fielder’s head.  Catcher Reagan Kidd would follow with a single to drive in West with the game’s first run.  McCreary wasn’t finished yet though.  Courtney Dixon would force Kidd and second base and leadoff hitter Cierra Terry would pop out to first.  Centerfielder Megan Ross then stepped up and drove a long line drive to left field that just cleared the fence to bring in two more runs.  The blast was the first home run of her career.

The shot prompted the Lady Cardinals to change pitchers but the next Lady Raider to the plate, Kaylee Cotton launched a high drive that was a no doubt home run to right field to give Central a 4-0 lead.

Cotton would also do the job on the mound where she limited Wayne to just four hits while striking out ten batters.

Wayne would not score until there were two outs in their final at bat on a single and an error.  By that time McCreary had built the lead to 6-0 with two more runs in the fifth inning.

Terry would start things in the fifth with a one out single and then a steal of second base.  Ross would then drive her in with a long double to right center field for her third run batted in of the game.  She would eventually get to third and then come in to score on a wild pitch to make it 6-0.
