Velva Mae Winchester, age 83 years, of Stearns, Kentucky died April 29, 2008 at McCreary Health and Rehab, Pine Knot, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Friday May 2, 2008 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Rufus Hughes and Bro. George Coffey officiating. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
She was born at McCreary County, Kentucky on April 7, 1925 the daughter of the late John Hens and Martha Cooper Dobbs. She was a homemaker and a member of Beech Grove United Baptist Church.
Her parents, her husband Clarence Winchester, two brothers Estill Dobbs and Elza Dobbs, two sisters Evelyn Wright and Edith Anderson, one grandchild and one great grandchild precede her in death.
Survivors include six sons Manford Winchester, Larry J. Winchester, Charles Winchester, Ronnie Winchester, and Mr. And Mrs. Roger Winchester all of Stearns, Kentucky and Denver Winchester of Whitley City, Kentucky, four daughters Shirley Gibson, Brenda Taylor and Barbara Berry (Mike) all of Stearns, Kentucky and Janice Rose (Gary) of Greenwood, Kentucky, three brothers Elbert Dobbs of California, Kentucky, Eldred Dobbs of Muncie, Indiana, and J. B. Watson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and two sisters Mary Jo Stephens of Indianapolis, Indiana and Jewelene Calhoun of Revelo, Kentucky. Thirty-three grandchildren, a host of great and great great grandchildren, and two special daughter in laws also survive.
