Wayne L. Bryant

Wayne L. Bryant, age 53 years, 8 months, and 27 days, died peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2008 at his Stearns home.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Strunk and Bro. Hap Strunk officiating. Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery.

Born on October 18, 1954 in Leatherwood, Kentucky to Donald Bryant and Lois Stephens Bryant. Wayne earned his living from the construction trades and auto body repair.

Wayne loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, and music. A past Vice President of the KY Hunters Education Association, Wayne was recognized by his peers for his many hours of service to Hunter Safety and Fish and Wildlife Departments.

Always civic minded Wayne served as Captain of the McCreary County Rescue Squad, Deputy Coroner, a past member of the Whitley City Lions Club, and attended the Whitley City First Baptist Church. Wayne also helped establish Camp Arnold, and organized an annual camping event where local youths were exposed to fishing sports, shooting, tracking, and survival skills. Wayne was always doing something to help somebody. He enjoyed serving others.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Maxwell Bryant, whom he married on August 11, 1984, his son, Bobby Ray Bryant and his wife, Linda, of Salyersville, Kentucky, his daughter, Jessica Jones and her husband, Junior, of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, his father, Donald Bryant and his wife, Becky, of Whitley City, Kentucky, a brother, Glen Bryant, of Whitley City, a sister, Deanie Perry and her husband, Hot Shot, of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carlos and Sheila Maxwell, of Whitley City, and four grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, his brother, Steve Bryant, and a nephew, Kenny Bryant.
