Leonard Earl Kennedy, Sr.
Leonard Earl Kennedy, Sr., age 75, of La Follette, Tennessee, formerly of Whitley City, Kentucky, the beloved husband of Bobbie Shelton Kennedy for 56 years, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at his residence.
A closed coffin visitation with video tribute was held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Masonic Funeral Service which was held at the Chapel of the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with William Hale, Jr. presiding. Reverends James E. Dunn, Dallas Burton, and Bill Phelps officiating the Christian Funeral Services which followed. Burial followed in the Flat Rock Cemetery.
He was born on April 11, 1933 in Coeburn, Virginia, he was the son of the late Anderson McKinley (Kent) and Bertha Smith Kennedy. He lived in Wiborg, Kentucky most of his life until 1999. He was an ordained Minister and was Pastor of Bogletown Pentecostal Church of God in Somerset, Kentucky for many years. He was a Past Master and a 50 year member of Greenwood Masonic Lodge #903 F&AM.
Besides his wife, whom he married on January 2, 1952, survivors include three daughters, Dixie Crouch, Teresa King, and Cynthia Holloway, a son, Leonard Kennedy, Jr., eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two twin brothers, Elmer and Elgin Kennedy, of Sidney, Ohio, and two sisters, Shirley Corder and Joyce New, both of Parkers Lake, Kentucky.
He inspired all who knew him and remained positive to the end as he battled with lung cancer. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
