Mertie Abbott age 92 years, 1 month, and 28 days of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Baptist Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 10:30 am at the Rock Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Estil Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Rock Springs Cemetery.
She was born August 7, 1918 in Ritner, Kentucky to George Clinton Jones and Hettie Lee Jones. Mertie was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. She spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and a mother, raising several children other than her own. Mertie had also worked a sales clerk at O.O. Duncan's and Conaster's. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting, along with flea marketing.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, George Abbott; sons Leon and Jerry Lynn Abbott; brothers, Roland, Marvin, Lister, Robert, & Boysten Jones; sisters, Lura Cooper, Addie Jones, Gertie Gregory, and Carrie Jones; and son-in-law Charles Simmons.
Survivors include her sons, Glenn A. Abbott and his wife, Shane, of Coopersville, Kentucky, Grover Cline Abbott of Stearns, Kentucky, David Reed Abbott and his wife Thelma, of Stearns, Kentucky; daughters, Fay Asbbrook and her husband, Henry, of Stearns, Kentucky, Wanda Heth and her husband, Jim, of Lexington, Kentucky, Joan Simmons of Lexington, Kentucky, Janie Miller and her husband, Gary, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, a special daughter, Ina Lee Jones, of Stearns, Kentucky; sisters, Bonnie Abbott of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Maxine Phillips, of Oberland, Ohio; Twelve grandchildren; Nineteen great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
