Lady Raiders whack Wayne

McCreary gets 4-3 district win with 9th inning single

By DON PERRY
Record Sports Writer

The Lady Cardinals were making a calculated move when they opted to intentionally walk Taniesha Vanover with one runner on base in the bottom of the ninth inning and leading by a single run.

The move backfired.

Jennifer Vanover made Wayne County pay big time by whacking a two-run game-winning single for McCreary Central Thursday night.

The victory over Wayne County took a couple of extra innings to secure, but it was well worth it for the Lady Raiders who sit at 2-1 in district play heading into Monday night’s games at Southwestern (which were played after presstime).

The Lady Raiders now stand at 6-10 on the season.

In addition to the big win over Wayne County, the Lady Raiders also picked up a 15-4 win over district rival Monticello last week.

After a 3-0 loss to Clinton County on Friday night, the Lady Raiders bounced right back to beat Oneida for the second time this season with an 8-3 win on Saturday afternoon.

Following the Southwestern match-up, the Lady Raiders have just one more district game against Monticello to round out district action. That is a home game at 6 p.m. on May 1.

The Lady Raiders have five homes games remaining on their schedule this season.
