Raiders score 17 to thump Cardinals

Raiders will face Wayne County in opening round of district tournament

By DON PERRY
Record Sports Writer

After a tough one-run loss to the district top team, the Raiders bounced right back to spank another district foe 17-7 last Thursday night.

The Raiders had a chance to shuffle the district seeding a bit when it played at Southwestern on Tuesday, but fell a bit short in a 5-4 loss.

The sting of losing a close game to a district foe wouldn’t last long though as the Raiders took any frustrations they may have had out on Wayne County two nights later.

The victory over the Cardinals moved the Raiders overall season record to a respectable 11-11 on the season with nine games remaining on the schedule.

The Raiders’ district mark of 3-3 pits them against the Cardinals in the opening round of the district tournament, while Southwestern will get winless Monticello in the first round.

The Raiders will play host to Corbin on Tuesday night and Pulaski County on Thursday night of this week, and will then have only one home game left on the season against Williamsburg on May 13.
