PRIMARY PROFILES: Magistrates

Districts 3 & 4

WHITLEY CITY —     This week, the McCreary County Record is featuring survey responses from Magistrate candidates in Districts 3 and 4, which are printed by office in order of receipt.

    DISTRICT 3: The Record received four responses out of five candidates running.

    Jeff Bryant of Stearns is a Republican candidate who has pastored Redemption Way Church since 2000. He has also been a local business owner and has more than 10 years experience in the Quality Assurance field.

    David Murphy of Stearns is a Democrat candidate who retired after 34 years operating Murphy Furniture & Appliance. He plans to put his experience in business and with the public to use as a full-time magistrate.

    Sondra Johnson of Stearns is seeking the Republican nomination. With more than 25 years of business management experience, she has owned Tower Crafts General Store for 16 years. Johnson also has EKU certifications in Supervision, Leadership/Conflict Management, Employee Motivation, and Team Building.

    Rosetta (Kilby) Waters of Pine Knot is a Republican candidate who retired after more than 31 years with USDA where she served as Program Technician and Acting County Executive Director. Civically she has chaired the McCreary chapter of the American Heart Association, served as Pine Knot Elementary PTO president and co-chaired the McCrearyFest Car Show.

    DISTRICT 4: The Record received four responses out of six candidates running.

    Jackie Braden of Pine Knot is seeking the Republican nomination. Having lived in the district his whole life, Braden has worked in the coal mines as well as farming.

    Jackie Wilson of Pine Knot is seeking the Republican nomination. She has 15 years banking experience and enjoys community involvement. Wilson and her husband Wayne have four children and two grandchildren.

    Duston Baird of Strunk is a Republican candidate and a lifelong resident of District 4. He and his wife, Heather, have five children.

    Deborah (Debbie) Taylor of Pine Knot is a Republican candidate with work experience ranging from factories to child- and healthcare. She has attended Tennessee Tech Vocational School and Somerset Community College in addition to helping run her husband’s trucking business.

Hatfield Lane 22 marijuana plants

The McCreary County Sheriff’s Office seized a total of 22 marijuana plants Saturday evening from a residence on Hatfield Lane in Whitley City. That case will be presented to the grand jury, but three individuals encountered during the investigation were arrested on unrelated charges.
