Watters sentenced to 96 months in federal prison

1 of 6 defendants in oxycodone ring

LONDON —  A Pine Knot woman has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for her role in a conspiracy to distribute oxyocodone.

On Thursday, United States District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove handed down a 96-month sentence 38-year-old Samantha Faye Watters after she pled guilty in January to Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone. In exchange for her guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss to distribution counts as well as a possession count.

Judge Van Tatenhove ruled that Watters’ federal sentence would be served concurrently “with the undischarged state sentence” of a related McCreary Circuit Court case from 2012, for which Watters has already served a year. She will also be subject to three years of supervised release.

Watters was among six defendants indicted a federal grand jury last July. Court records indicate that between 2009 and 2013, Watters’ mother Madie Parriman, stepfather Timmie Parriman and brother Gary Cooper purchased oxycodone from Devon Jackson and William Strickland of Detroit. Watters then helped resell the pills.

Jackson entered into a plea agreement which resulted in his release last September with eight months of time served and three years of supervision. Strickland is scheduled to be rearraigned this afternoon (May 28) at the U.S. District Court in London. Cooper and the Parrimans have also entered pleas and are scheduled to be sentenced June 12.

[UPDATE: Strickland has pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute oxycodone. His sentencing has been scheduled for September 25.]
