Relay For Life is Fri., May 30

STEARNS —  Hundreds of McCreary County residents are expected to join together at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of McCreary County Friday, May 30, at 7 p.m. at McCreary Central High School. This year’s theme is “Hunting For A Cure”.

    Relay For Life of McCreary County is a free, family-friendly community event that celebrates local cancer survivors, remembers those who have passed away from the disease and allows the community to fight back against cancer. This year’s sponsors are: Outdoor Venture Corporation, Highland Telephone Cooperative, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Kentucky Farm Bureau Josh Bruce, Agent and Arby’s.

    Survivors will be recognized at the event and will receive refreshments, their 2014 lapel pin and 2014 purple Relay For Life survivor t-shirt.

    You can now make a donation of $5 to have a loved one’s name put on a luminaria bag for the Relay For Life event.

    The event and the dollars raised from it support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures and fighting back against cancer.  In the past year, the American Cancer Society assisted 49 McCreary County cancer patients with over 171 free services and programs.  Since opening in 2007, the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Lexington has provided over 719 free nights of lodging to 51 McCreary County cancer patients and caregivers.  

    Overall, since opening in 2007, the Hope Lodge in Lexington has provided 56,000 free nights of lodging saving cancer patients over $6.2 Million in motel expenses.
